Philippians draws to a Close

After 6 weeks of being together and studying Paul’s Letter to the Philippians, last Thursday was the last session. It was difficult to say “good bye” just like Paul found it hard to bid the Philippian Church farewell. It has been a good time of learning and applying God’s word to one’s life. Paul was seen to be an excellent pastor, friend and missionary whose very purpose for life was to preach the Gospel and to always see to the needs of others.

There was a little celebration at the end of the night. As one member wrote to his Bishop saying ” It has been a great study that we have had in JB” Praise the Lord.

Serious but Joyful time!

I had the privilege of sitting in on a class as I was not doing the summary lecture tonight. It was a wonderful experience as I observed that there was both the seriousness to God’s Word and at the same the “the joy of the Lord” was evident in class members. It was wonderful to see that they have grown in the depth of the relationship with the Lord and also in the understanding of His Word. Nesam who was the small group leader at one point shared her personal testimony of how God turned the tables on those who had opposed her family. This was in the context of Acts of the Apostles Chapter 18 where Gallio, the proconsul found no wrong in the accusations brought against Paul by the Jews. God said to Paul ” For I am with you, and no one is going to attack and harm you,”

Sheena, a small group leader of the JB Class was so surprised that in the midst of suffering Paul was able to rejoice. She just could not understand. The Class is studying Paul’s Letter to the Philippians. After the Lecture given by Rev Fred who is the teaching leader, she came up very excitedly and claimed, ” Now I understand!!!!!!!”
It suddenly dawned on her that it was only in God’s strength that Paul or anyone of us could overcome these trials and difficulties.

Christian Hospitality a lost virtue

Aunty Glo

Aunty Glo as she is fondly called, is one of the teaching leaders at the PJ Class. As she gave the lecture on Acts chapter 16, she reminded the class that the new church that began in the home of Lydia was result of prayer and Christian hospitality. She challenged the class to bring back this great gift to the Christian home. She noted that women played a significant role in this area. She also brought to the attention of the class that Timothy’s future Christian ministry was shaped by his mother and grandmother. It is now our turn to prepare the young for the Lord’s ministry.

JB Class Member is Ordained

Rev Tan Meng Poo who is a member of the JB Class was ordained Priest in the Anglican Church in the Diocese of West Malaysia on June 28 by the Bishop Ng Moon Hing. Rev Tan serves with RBC Ministries an organisation which distributes daily devotional readings in many languages. He is one of the International Vice Presidents.

Meng Poo’s love for God’s word and getting the Word into the hands of Christians initiated the first CBSI Class in JB. Thus we are thrilled that God has called him to take on this responsibility and role.

Our Prayers and blessings are with Meng Poo and his family.
